Education Technology - What Does it Look Like at PECPS
As the Supervisor of Technology, I’m excited to highlight how our department is leveraging cutting-edge educational technology to enhance the learning experiences of our students. We’ve fully implemented a 1:1 Chromebook program at the high school level, ensuring every student has a device that supports personalized learning. This initiative fosters digital literacy, facilitates collaboration, and engages students with dynamic content, preparing them for the future. At the elementary level, we provide iPads to students in Kindergarten through 2nd grade, offering interactive opportunities to explore concepts and develop essential skills. By integrating technology early, we lay a strong foundation for digital literacy and future readiness.
In every classroom, we’ve equipped teachers with interactive Smart Boards to transform lessons into engaging, interactive experiences. These boards promote active learning, allowing for dynamic presentations and seamless integration with online resources.
We are also thrilled to announce that PECPS is one of only a few schools to have an Anatomage Table, an advanced real-human-based medical education platform. This cutting-edge tool allows students to engage in virtual dissections and explore 3D representations of human anatomy, offering a hands-on learning experience that traditional methods simply can't provide. The exceptional value of this technology led to PECPS being featured in a PBS podcast, produced in collaboration with the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE). The podcast highlights how this state-of-the-art tool enhances instruction and significantly boosts student engagement. Click here to view the full broadcast.
Additionally, our middle school participates in the world’s largest weather network through Earth Networks, with over 12,000 neighborhood-level sensors. This system not only supports learning in science and environmental studies but also provides valuable, real-world data for students to analyze and incorporate into their coursework
We’re also leveraging online learning platforms to complement traditional instruction. Tools like Google Classroom, Canvas, Zearn, and Lexia support flexible learning and foster collaboration, ensuring that students continue to thrive both in and outside the classroom. Finally, to empower our educators, we provide ongoing professional development in digital tools. Regular training ensures that teachers are confident in using technology to enhance instruction and meet the evolving needs of their students.
Our commitment to integrating technology is crucial in preparing students for the future. PECPS will continue to explore innovative solutions that enhance teaching and learning across our district. However, none of this progress would be possible without the collective efforts of all departments working together to advance our school system and ensure we remain at the forefront of education. PECPS has achieved this success thanks to the support of our Coordinator of Federal Grants and the Finance Department, the invaluable leadership of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in integrating technology into classrooms, and the guidance of the Coordinator of Data Analytics and Career Connections in securing the Anatomage Table.
