Southside Virginia Regional Technology Consortium (SVRTC) Awards

The Southside Virginia Regional Technology Consortium (SVRTC) was established in 1995 through the leadership of Dinwiddie County Public Schools, in collaboration with Longwood University. Initially created to develop a telecommunication network and enhance technological capabilities across Southside Virginia school divisions, SVRTC now facilitates the sharing of technology resources among its members and offers monthly professional development focused on technology-related issues. Additionally, the consortium hosts an Annual Awards Banquet to recognize outstanding contributions to educational technology. This year's award winners are listed below.

Rachel Fielding demonstrates exceptional adaptability and innovation in technology education by quickly mastering new tools and seamlessly integrating advanced equipment like laser cutters, welding simulations, and LEGO Education sets into her curriculum, creating an engaging and career-focused learning environment. She has shown outstanding commitment to student empowerment by developing hands-on, career-driven projects that not only build real-world technical skills but also foster creativity and problem-solving abilities, helping students gain confidence in exploring STEM career pathways. Rachel's passionate approach to teaching and continuous drive for innovation has transformed her classroom into an inspiring space where students actively engage with cutting-edge technology, making her an exemplary candidate for the SVRTC Technology Teacher Award.

SVRTC Instructional Technology Support Award

Jamie Popp has demonstrated exceptional leadership in technology integration by providing comprehensive professional development for educators on vital educational platforms like Mastery Connect, Lexia, and Zearn, while also collaborating directly with teachers during math planning sessions to ensure effective implementation of digital tools in classroom instruction. She went beyond traditional support roles by creating engaging hands-on STEM experiences for students in the STEM lab, developing aligned assessments, and working closely with teachers to integrate technology across science and math curricula, demonstrating her commitment to both educator support and direct student impact. Jamie's organization of an innovative STEM Night showcased her ability to build meaningful community partnerships by bringing together technology businesses, forensics professionals, and interactive STEM experiences using drones and EVO bots, creating real-world connections that inspired students while strengthening the school-community relationship in technology education.

SVRTC Technology Support Award

John Meinhard stepped into the role of Junior Network Administrator last year and has demonstrated exceptional dedication and leadership as the lead technician for Prince Edward County Public Schools. He has been instrumental in managing the division's iPads, troubleshooting critical firewall issues, assisting fellow technicians, and providing outstanding support to teachers and staff. His problem-solving skills, responsiveness, and commitment have greatly benefited Prince Edward. John consistently goes above and beyond to foster a supportive and efficient tech environment, always willing to step in and help wherever needed. His hard work, professionalism, and positive attitude make him a vital part of our team.
